6th Asian Mediation Association Conference

Manila, Philippines – The Supreme Court of the Philippines proudly announces its hosting of the 6th Asian Mediation Association (AMA) Conference on 15 to 16 October 2024 at the Shangri-La The Fort in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The Conference, bannering the Supreme Court’s Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027, will revolve around the theme “Harmony and Strategic Innovations in Mediation and ADR” and will gather global experts and practitioners in mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including legal luminaries, ADR practitioners, members of the academe, and advocates from across Asia and beyond.

The Philippines’ hosting of this prestigious event is a significant milestone as the Philippine Supreme Court assumes the role of Chairperson of the AMA, a position designated during the AMA Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi, India, on 5 May 2023. The Supreme Court’s delegation, led by Assistant Court Administrator Lilian C. Barribal-Co and Atty. Marilou Marzan-Anigan, Chief of the Court Management Office (CMO), accepted the Chairpersonship, underscoring the country’s commitment to advancing mediation and ADR practices. Further exemplifying its fervor in taking on this daunting but remarkable task, the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA), the Philippine Judicial Academy (PhilJA), and various Supreme Court offices have collaborated extensively to ensure the success of the Conference, from program development to logistical arrangements, to ensure an optimal experience for all delegates and participants.

The two-day Conference will feature eight dynamic sessions designed to foster meaningful dialogue, inspire discourse, and share insights on various aspects of mediation and ADR. This wide array of topics includes plenary sessions that will cover pivotal and invaluable areas in mediation and ADR, such as “Access to Justice and Dispute Resolution Across Cultures”, “Family Mediation”, “Community Dispute Resolution in the Philippine Context”, “Survey of Online Dispute Resolution Platforms”, “AI as a Tool in Mediation”, “Mediation as a Mechanism in Settling Environmetal Issues”, “Enhancing International Dispute Resolution Capabilities for the Complex Global Business Environment”, and “Ethical Challenges in the Age of Digital Mediation”.

The engaging program will adopt a Panel Discussions Format, curated to allow pre-selected delegates from AMA member-countries, as well as other renowned individuals in the ADR practice, to share their experiences and innovations in the realm of mediation. To celebrate the laudable achievements and promising future of mediation and ADR in Asia and in the Philippines, and to showcase the trademark and distinguished Filipino hospitality, a Gala Night will also be held to mark the meaningful culmination of the first day of the Conference. Delegates, participants and guests can anticipate colorful performances arranged by the host, in partnership with the Department of Tourism and the Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution of the Department of Justice, during this event for socialization and opportunity for expansion of ADR and mediation circles.
